About

About

Going Mobile KW volunteers deliver 100 or more meal bags daily to people experiencing homelessness. Our volunteer community outreach group provide support to people experiencing homelessness in Kitchener-Waterloo (KW).

Our support may include the nightly delivery of a nutritional meal and items for warmth, community resource list, kindness, and a caring ear with dignity and without discrimination or judgement. We may serve people living on the streets and in government housing.

Small items are also shared when possible, and we strive to help with special requests for necessities. Small items may include weather-appropriate clothing, sleeping bags, sleeping mats, blankets, hand warmers, tarps, over the counter medications, toiletries, etc., as inventory permits.

Food is individually packaged and served on a low key level in order to create a comfort zone without pressure. Many of our outreach group members are unsheltered or the loved one of those we serve.

This effort is funded solely by donations. The kindness and generosity of our community members is much appreciated. Monetary donations give us the most flexibility to purchase what we need. Donations of food, small items, facilities, and time from both individuals and businesses are always welcome. Going Mobile KW has established partnerships with local community resources and businesses, working together to help our most vulnerable.

Background

2012 - January 2020

Nadine Green’s downtown Kitchener convenience store became an unofficial shelter, where Nadine fed and housed several dozen people experiencing homelessness.

March 2021

Volunteers steadily increased and delivery grew to about 50 recipients. The group became 'Going Mobile KW'. Tiny Home Takeout provides a daily bite meal.

January 2020

Nadine was evicted from the store at the beginning of the pandemic for behaving like a residence. She prepared food at a friend's house, and delivered it the people who she formerly fed at her store.

January 2022

Going Mobile KW continues to grow and feeds 100+ people daily

February 2020

A friend prepared ten lunch bags 3-4 nights a week and placed them on her front porch for Nadine to also deliver when she checked on the unsheltered battling hunger in our community.

May 2022
