A Better Tent City
ABTC is a novel community-based approach to providing a home and a sense of belonging for approximately 50 residents who have experienced chronic homelessness in Waterloo Region. Nadine Green works and lives at A Better Tent City and is the resident Site Coordinator. Nadine started Going Mobile KW and is a strong advocate for the unsheltered.
A Better Tent City is a broad cross-section of people creating a self-organized community built on respect for each other and where we live. The first location of A Better Tent City was at Lot 42 on Ardelt Avenue until it was sold and the community temporarily moved to the City of Kitchener Snow Dump on Battler Road for the summer of 2021. The community now resides at 49 Ardelt Avenue on land owned by the City of Kitchener, and the Waterloo Regional School Board.
